Why volunteer with Compass?

People volunteer for a variety of reasons but the benefits should be two-way. We would like you to offer something to Compass, but we also want you to get something out of the experience yourself. It can be an excellent way to learn about the effects of brain injury or about life with a disability, to enhance your future career, to gain confidence or just to feel the personal satisfaction of doing something useful. You will be introduced to all kinds of people, from a variety of backgrounds, who have many stories to tell.

How volunteers help

Volunteers help in many ways, depending on their interests and skills and are involved in a range of activities including:

  • Gardening
  • Art Groups
  • Fundraising
  • Administration
  • Cooking
  • Fun Days Out
  • Creative Writing

How available do volunteers need to be?

Most people volunteer for one half day per week, but it can be more depending on your circumstances and the needs of the centre. The centre is open weekdays but we do sometimes require volunteers outwith this time to assist with fundraising events.

What should volunteers expect?

  • Full induction to the role
  • Mandatory training
  • A safe working environment
  • Liability and personal accident insurance
  • Travel and out of pocket expenses
  • To develop existing skills and gain new ones
  • To meet new people and be part of a team
  • To enjoy yourself and have fun!
